What’s new with EVNROLL?

Since we last reviewed a product in the EVNROLL lineup, the US company has since been sold.

EVNROLL Putters was sold to CREATZ, a Korean high-tech firm that is the parent company of the Uneekor golf launch monitor company. CREATZ acquired a 70-percent ownership stake in Evnroll, with Guerin Rife, Evnroll’s CEO and chief designer, remaining as CEO and remaining on the board of directors. The selling price was estimated to be $15.2 million.

Design

The whole EV5 series is based around a “winged” type design that the user differs slightly depending on the user’s preference on top of the ball and stroke style.

Unlike the 5.1 and 5.2, the 5.3 is the only putter in the series to connect the “fangs” by a rear bar giving you a true mallet feel, it also has the added benefit of you being able to scoop your ball on the “gimmies”.

The EVNROLL EV5.3 Putter boasts a sleek and elegant design that exudes sophistication. The putter’s aesthetics are a blend of traditional and modern elements, making it appealing to a wide range of golfers. Our first experience using the Tourtac grip was when we reviewed the EVNROLL ER11VX Midlock and we’ve been loving it ever since so it came as no surprise that the inclusion of the Tourtac grip on the EV5.3 already had us excited. Not only does it add a premium touch to the design, it offers both style and functionality making it unlike any other grip on the market you’ll play with.

The “straight cut” on the front and sticky gum feel really helps to add emphasis on getting your shoulders square post grip, Whereas with other grips on the market, it can be very easy to get your hands over and close your shoulders to target.

It does feel slightly strange at first but after a few holes, you’ll start to get comfortable with it and quickly find the right grip pressure as helps keep your thumbs relaxed.

Customisable

There are a plethora of different customisable options to make your EV5.3 truly unique and personalised to you. EVNROLL also allow you to change the colour of paint in the logos.

Performance

Performance wise the EV5.3 was A1. The balance of this putter is beautiful and the design of it really helped with aim.

Whilst all of the EV5 range comes with a cavity back style, the 5.3’s back bar somehow manages to create a closed tunnel that’s identical the the width of the ball allowing you to start the ball rolling on your desired line.

As with other models, The “Sweet Face Technology” effectively minimised distance loss on mis-hits and we were finding a lot more of our 3 putts turning into 2’s and 1’s.

In terms of closer pressure, this is where both the Tourtac grip and the head of the putter both work in harmony together, everything felt light but also incredibly balanced at the same time.

Golfers, rejoice! Motocaddy has just released the M7 GPS trolley, the world’s first remote-controlled electric trolley with a touchscreen GPS. The new Motocaddy has everything you need to have the ultimate caddie experience, from pinpoint yardages and GPS mapping to a super-responsive touchscreen and a wide range of smartphone notifications.

The groundbreaking M7 GPS, a pivotal addition to the award-winning M-Series range known for its compact foldability, incorporates a fully integrated GPS system. After 3 months of using the trolley here is what we thought.

Design

Let’s start with the design. From the offset, the “Batman” style blacked-out trolley works for a number of reasons.

1. It’s universal. Having used a number of Motocaddy trolleys before, it can be quite annoying when you want to match a cart bag to your trolley with Red/Blue/Green accents that Motocaddy is known for.
2. It separates it from the pack. Traditionally, this colourway has always been reserved for Motocaddy’s “higher-end” models and this is no different. When you see it you know it means business.
3. It looks premium. There’s no denying the look of the M7 GPS in terms of colourway, it just looks a lot more premium than other “expensive” trolleys in the same price bracket.

As always and as part of Motocaddy’s ‘M’ Series, the M7 GPS is designed for user-friendliness, and it’s a breeze to fold up and store. The front wheels tuck neatly under the chassis, and the rear wheels can be inverted to save even more space. Old Motocaddy users who are thinking of upgrading will be pleased to know the kick-stand remains, as does the option for EASILOCK.

The Anti-tip wheel is also optional. Whilst it can take up storage space in the boot of your car, you can remove it simply by sliding it in or out and locking it in until it clicks.

The 3.5 inch touchscreen display compliments the trolley action button which can be used instead of the remote and we really like the idea of having 2 clips to store it on the trolley without having to compromise any of the space for Motocaddy’s accessories and cradles.

Features

Whilst most of the features are recognisable from previous iterations, it’s the new touchscreen that will stand out as the one to talk about.

The processor itself runs smooth and the screen has a lovely resolution making it easy to read in bright light too. To protect it, Motocaddy has thrown in a free screen protector in the box, which we’d highly recommend if you’re prone to throwing your irons back into the bag carelessly (we’ve all done it).

The GPS features of 40,000 courses and shows on-screen data such as:

• Front/Middle/Back distances
• Par and Hole Number
• Hazards
• Round and Shot distances
• Pin Selection on the Green

Graphically it’s very clear to read and navigation is very simple and you can also get push notifications sent right to the screen should you want to by pairing up your phone.

We did find the battery life to reduce to use slightly but after 3 months of using the M7 GPS both with and without the GPS on for 18 holes, we were still sitting around 50% battery when keeping the speed to around 5 or 6 out of 9.

DHC is a standard feature in this so the trolley will also slow down automatically when moving downhill.

The Remote itself is pretty straightforward and easy to use. It has directional controls and an emergency stop which does come to a standstill almost immediately. The remote also has a handset lock although it’s probably not a feature you’d ever use.

In terms of range, we were able to control our trolley easily from 50-60 yards away giving you more than enough to plot your way around.

Performance Plan

The last feature packed into the M7 GPS is the additional package they offer called “Performance Plan”. It’s a paid-for subscription priced annually at £49.99 but Motocaddy offer all new owners a 12-month trial to use the features without the need to input credit card details (we wish everyone did this!)

The Performance Plan is essentially an upgrade to the standard GPS features which let you keep track of all your data including your course performance, keep scorecards, give detailed green views and update all courses automatically using the in-built sim card.

The extra money be a gripe for some given price of the trolley from the offset, but we’d highly recommend taking advantage of the trial. If you’re a regular player who likes data then this will be a purchase you wouldn’t mind making as it instantly replaces any wearables you may have used before.

To conclude, we’d be open to say the M7 GPS is one of the best premium Trolleys out on the market right now. With its sleek design and featured-packed touchscreen it’s a great choice for anyone looking to go Hands-Free.

The price is expensive but the M7 GPS does also come with a 24 month warranty to add that extra level of comfort.

The M7 GPS is a joy to use and we won’t be replacing it anytime soon.

Shot Scope has just released the new G5 GPS golf watch, and it’s a total steal. For only £149.99, you get all the features of a premium golf watch, plus a few extra goodies.

Unboxing

Being priced at entry level, the box reflects just that. Shot Scope has chosen to package this in a no-frills way focusing solely on the product inside. In the box, you get:

• Watch (with protective sticker)

Design

Given the price point, it’s fair to say you shouldn’t expect an ultra-premium design on the G5 GPS, however, that being said, the watch feels and looks better than the price it’s being retailed at.

The plastic round face comes in at around 44mm but unfortunately, you don’t get a full-screen experience. Instead, most of the real estate is taken up by logos and text to signify all 4 physical buttons as this watch is not a touch screen.

The button’s themselves are brushed steel as well as the strap buckles which does give this a more premium look and feel in areas.

The 176×176 pixel screen whilst not the sharpest does a good job of giving you a really good reading experience when playing and looks good in bright light too.

On the back of the watch, you get your charging port and that’s that. The watch is so simple it’s ready to use straight out of the box which will no doubt appeal to a lot of golfers out there.

Customisation

One of the best things about the Shot Scope G5 GPS watch is that you can customise it to your liking. You can choose from 12 different watch straps in a variety of colours, and you can also choose from two different colours for the watch casing. This allows you to create a watch that is truly unique to you.

The watch also comes with two quick-release interchangeable straps so you can begin customising it straight from your online basket.

Features

The G5 is packed with features, including front, middle, and back distances to the green, distances to hazards, doglegs, and layup points, as well as a digital scorecard.

The Shot Scope is pre-loaded with 36,000 courses straight out of the box and you’ll be ready to play within minutes, and better yet if you did need a course update you can email Shot Scope direct who will be able to assist with this and have it ready for you to download from the app should you need it.

For those who are more used to using a touch screen, using physical buttons may seem tricky on your first round but after around 4/5 holes we found using them a breeze and were easily able to enter the score and check our lay-up and hazard distances and another feature that some may like is the ability to track your shot distances if you hit a bomb off the tee.

In terms of the yardages themselves, you can customise this too and choose how you want it to read to suit your preference.

The benefit of the simplicity of this watch and its screen is the battery life and we found you could quite easily get 36 rounds of golf from this watch on a single charge and that’s with playing around and fiddling with features and buttons throughout.

When it comes to Golf tech, there are all kind of products on the market enticing you in with a promise of game improvement and let’s be honest, there is a lot of things you can buy, so much so keeping everything in your bag charged and ready can be a chore in itself.

Well, what if there was a product that packaged everything into one? That’s exactly what Shotscope have done with the LX+ and we took it out to Stockwood Park GC in Luton to give it a go.

Unboxing

Design

Pro LX

The eagle-eyed and keen golfers out there will notice that this product looks very similar to other products from Shot Scope and that’s mainly because they are. Still, the beauty about the Pro LX+ is that it combines the Pro LX Scope and H4 GPS into one creating one modular device to give you yardages in a way you see fit.

Starting with the Pro LX, the design is actually one of the best we’ve seen on scope in terms of ergonomics. Whilst it’s not the smallest scope on the market, it is still incredibly light at just 200g but our favourite part of the design is its exaggerated thumb-cave which provides an incredible amount of stability when you’re trying to lock on to your target, great for handed use and suitable for even the shakiest of hands.

Just behind your thumb, you’ll notice what looks like a large piece of vacant branding, however, if you flick this piece of plastic out, it will reveal an extremely strong magnet where you can house the H4 GPS at the same time.

On the side of the Pro LX, you’ll find another nice design feature in the quick slope switch, which makes it very easy to toggle and off for tournament mode.

The 3 buttons on the top allow you to toggle your optics colours, change modes and lock on to a target.

H4 GPS

The H4 GPS unit is the LX Pro’s companion product. A removable handheld GPS is targeted at those who don’t like to wear a watch and want flexibility in their yardages without the distractions. 

Just like its sister in the scope, we were very impressed with the design of the unit itself. 

The H4 design is based on the V3 watch that Shot Scope released not too long ago although its dimensions differ slightly. It’s slightly chunkier than the V3 Watch but that’s most likely due to the fact it needs to house a battery and also for it to fit comfortably in its housing.

On the back of the H4 is a very strong magnet that enables you to lock it into its housing and also lock it onto the Scope if needs be. You can also stick this onto your Golf cart if you’re having a round on wheels. The housing itself cradles the H4 very well giving you good feedback that it’s locked in place so it doesn’t fall out and gives users the flexibility to either clip it onto your belt or attach it to a bag via the included carabiner clip.

We had it on our belt the whole time and it felt really unintrusive, better yet the screen is really bright so we didn’t even need to take it out of its cradle to check our yardages, although some players might find it difficult to check their yardages upside down via a later firmware update.

The H4 isn’t a touch screen but instead has 4 physical buttons to guide you through its menus and settings.

Pro LX

The LX Pro has all of the features you’d expect in a Laser rangefinder with one added extra that we really like. 

Aside from the 7X magnification, Focus wheel, Quick select Slope settings and space to accommodate the H4 if needs be, the LX Pro gives users to select between Black and Red optics which can easily be changed using the B/R button on the top of the device.

Having only used Scopes with Black Optics before it came as a real surprise just how clear the red optics were when trying to read the information through the eyehole. Having the option to toggle this is a great addition to this rangefinder especially if you want to change it for different weather conditions or let your playing partner use it.

Everything on the LX Pro’s screen was very detailed and its ability to give back information was very fast, especially when using the vibrating pin lock function.

H4 GPS

The H4 unit is packed with all of the features you’d want and expect from a GPS and its incredibly simplified and we found it to be extremely accurate when measured against the LX Pro scope. 

The H4 will give you access to 36,000 courses straight out of the box and you can download more if needed through the app which is a breeze.

When starting your game it takes around 1 minute to find your course and then you’re all set. The GPS will automatically give you yardages to Front/back/middle and also give you accurate information about bunkers and water hazards both front and back.

One particular feature we really liked is the menu for layups, it gives you two options for a shorter or longer layup and gives you quick information on the yardages needed to achieve your goal.

For the big hitters, you also get the yardage information of your last shot although we’d have liked to see this on the main screen rather than hidden in the settings menu.

The main feature of the H4 is the ability to capture shot tracking data throughout your round. Included in the box are 16 tags for you to attach and assign to your clubs within the app, from there you’ll have the ability to track every shot you take with the clubs to review after your round.

In order to track your shot you simply tap the butt end of the club to your device and you’ll be met with a vibration to let you know the club is tracking, you’ll also see the name of the club on the main screen just in case.

We like the idea of having a trigger to start the tracking as you won’t start tracking any practice swings. It can also be used to “get you ready” in your set-up routine to let you know it’s swing time.

It did take us a while to get used to as at first it all felt new and alien in the setup routine, however, nearer the end of the round it did start feeling habitual and we think after a few rounds with it you’ll have it forged into your set up.

One of the other good features is the “pickup” feature when you’re on the green putting. The H4 screen will automatically change when you’ve landed on the green and give you the option to choose 1,2 or 3 putts with each button to help you keep track of putting performance post-round.

Of course, if you are looking for shot data you’re only going to get out what you put in so getting used to going live with your club is paramount to getting the most out of your device.

Post round, it’s incredibly easy to “sync” your round to the app to view all of your stats and once in the app, you’re met with an unbelievable amount of data about your game.

Within the app, you’re able to sync your round, make edits and ‘sign off’ off your round so it can be put into the analysis tabs.

From here you’re able to see your scorecard inc GIRs and total putts (which we really liked). If you move over to hole view you’re able to see a birds-eye satellite shot of every shot you tracked, with which club and how many yards you hit it.

In terms of your performance stats, the numbers are almost endless. So many that making a list would be easier.

• Game overview, shot by shot and detailed statistics on each shot.
• Score breakdown (Eagle, birdie, Par %)
• Overview vs a tour player
• Average Par 3,4,5 score
• Average front 9/back 9 to Par
• All club distances, average, longest 
• Putting, missed short, long, average holes for 3 putts.
• Tee shot left, fairway, right %

The list goes on and on and on.

You can choose to view your performance stats per round or even multiple rounds as your playing averages.

We also particularly liked the “share” mode whereby the app gives you options on which holes to share as a map, a scorecard summary inc longest drives or even data overlaid on your own photos.

As we’ve only used this for a few rounds the data we’d be looking at is still pretty premature in terms of giving us the useful information we’d need for game improvement, but if anyone was to use H4 tracking for 10 rounds or more we’re certain they’d have invaluable insight.

Verdict

The flexibility of the Pro LX+ makes these two products an absolute joy to use on the course. It caters to golfers of all levels and really is one of the best products in the market in terms of data collection for game improvement. 

The Pro LX is a very accurate scope and the H4 is a brilliant concept in terms of everything from design to functionality and the battery life is also superb leaving us with around 80% after 18 holes.

We’d have loved to see a live scorecard feature on the H4 measured against handicap, the option to flip your screen upside down and also your last shot yardage counter on the main screen but that may come with firmware updates.

We did find it difficult to remember to track our shots and whilst this can be edited in post-round maybe the choice to have a vibrating reminder would also be a good addition if you moved on to your shot next shot without tapping your clubs.

Given that this bundle retails for only £329 with no subscription for tracking and data makes it an absolute steal and winner in our eyes. The access to data alone is mindblowing but to have top tier hardware to compliment makes the Pro LX+ the real deal. If you don’t like to wear watches to track yardages and want that little bit extra, this is probably the product for you.

When we reviewed the EVNROLL ER2B, we were blown away by the design and the performance of the putter. Having won awards as the “worlds most mosted blade” we can assure you it lived up to the hype and since then the brand continues to go from strength to strength and you can imagine our excitement when we got to use the latest in Guerin Rife’s portfolio.

With over 25 year of experience, Rife is no stranger to putter design but it was the introduction of EVNROLL in 2016 and Rife’s patented “sweet face technology” that has the industry talking and the latest in the brands portfolio gives you an idea of the team continue to push boundaries.

The Carlsbad, CA company pride itself on using data to change the game and create the perfect putter for your game accompanied by stunning visual design.

The EVNROLL ER11VX is the second installment of the successful mallet to be fitted with the highly acclaimed Midlock grip.

We took the putter out for 3 rounds to give it a run-through to see how it fared in on the greens.

Design

As previously mentioned the ER11VX isn’t a new design per se, but more so a tweak of last year’s ER11V with ever so slight changes.

Whilst everything still looks familiar with its CNC Milled Aluminium body, the stainless steel weights have been changed slightly to give it better balance and weight resulting in a greater MOI (Moment of Intertia) for the player.

On the top of the putter, the sight line has changed from a tunnel to a solid straight line and its bold red and white text and accents have been updated to show the VX in this year’s model whilst still showing the traditional “E” and “Design by Guerin Rife” text.

The headcover has also had an update to showcase the Midlock variant with soft tumbled leather, a monochrome design, and of course, the tiny “Get Even” messaging on the side tag.

One of the most ingenious parts of Rife’s design on both the ER11V and VX was the option to cut out a concave hole to pick up your ball without compromising on the weight and build quality of the putter head itself, which is so incredibly useful and puts a small smile on your face on every pick-up.

Like every EVNROLL putter, the build quality feels extra premium and feels beautifully weighted.

The true talking point on the ER11VX ML is the Midlock itself, Rife’s approach to the armlock method which is dubbed “Armlock Made Easy”

The grip like the monochrome headcover compromises of 2 parts. The bottom black half acts as your traditional putting grip and acts as a guide, a reminder of who to set up naturally in terms of hand position.

The top white half is where the magic happens. Using the “just add 6” measurement, the player should add 6 inches to their traditional putter length and the top white section, which almost looks like a pistol grip turned sideways acts a natural feeling lock into your lead forearm with very little forward tilt.

Performance and Feel

Like anyone using a new putter grip for the first time, The Midlock felt very strange at first. Having used Armlock putters before, we found the Midlock to take even longer to get accustomed to simply because it almost sits in between Arm lock and traditional.

When using an Armlock putter you’re almost expecting a whole new method, but with Midlock the feel is a lot more subtle as a concept. The forward tilt or shaft lean in comparison is only 4 degrees vs 9 degrees of what an armlock would be.

Once you are comfortable in your setup you can instantly feel the pressure taken off of your wrists and dispersed into your arms and shoulders giving you a much more controlled takeaway.

We found ourselves hitting our putts long at first but with the weight and hozel designed specifically for the degree change, we quickly found our tempo.

Knowing you can control the length of your takeaway more consistently meant that it was easy to control pace and roll. We dubbed it a “2 Putt machine” as we were able to control the ball getting very close to the hole, especially on putts greater than 10 yards.

A controlled takeaway also meant a consistent arc which we found incredibly useful when trying to roll your putt on your guideline.

It took a whole 1 round to get used to the putter overall because of the feel and those who use fatter grips may struggle a bit longer, however, once you are used to it it’ll be hard to remove it from your bag.

Strangely we found the ER11VX a lot easier to use and better to use outside of 5-8 yards mainly due to the stroke length but over time we’re sure this will improve also.

Overall, EVNROLL has been a joy to use. Our rolls were consistent and confidence felt very high when using it resulting in 3.5 strokes gained on putts when using Arccos analytics.

Verdict

The ER11VX Midlock putter won’t attract everyone but it is for those wanting a confidence boost in their putting stroke it is definitely worthy.

The ML eliminates almost all shakes and off-track takeaway simply by releasing pressure from your wrists and dispersing it.

The beauty of the EVNROLL ML is that Guerin Rife has modified the design to feel as subtle as possible whilst sticking to USGA guidance on rules.

The weight, feel and design of the ER11VX all work in harmony with one another making this better a serious option for those in the market for something new.

Back when we interviewed Ingo Dullman and Rainer Stockl, We knew Vice Golf would go from strength in a market that is saturated with legacy brands as was yearning for something fresh that went against the grain.
