Unboxing

Design and Flip

Check out the Oppo Find N2 Flip, the cool kid on the block with its clamshell-style design, nifty side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and dual cameras. At first glance, it looks like a cousin of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but hold up—there’s a major difference that’ll catch your eye. It rocks a massive 3.26-inch outer display, smoothly nestled into the glass like a silky smooth surface. While you can’t control the whole shebang from there like on those big foldable phones, it still offers more than the Z Flip 4’s outer panel.

Now, pop open the phone like a secret agent revealing their top-secret gadget, and voila! You’re greeted with a more standard 6.8-inch FHD 120Hz OLED inner display. Oppo claims it can reach a mind-boggling 1,600 nits of brightness, and they’ve even added a snazzy anti-glare coating so you can see it shine even on a sunny day at the beach.

Let’s talk about that hinge—Oppo’s got some serious “flexion” game going on. It opens and closes smoothly with just the right amount of resistance. But wait, there’s more! It’s got a trick up its sleeve. You can open it partway, propping it up for stable photos or hands-free binge-watching, just like those other fancy foldable phones. Now, don’t go shaking it like a maraca—it might rattle a bit if you’re on a wild adventure, but otherwise, it feels solid as a rock.

Oppo swears that you can fold and unfold the Find N2 Flip at least 400,000 times without breaking a sweat. And with its ultra-thin glass inside display, supported by a trusty steel back plate, and a Gorilla Glass 5 outer display, this bad boy is built to last. It’s a bummer, though, that it missed the memo on water resistance. For now, that’s a feature only Samsung’s foldables have, thanks to their fancy IPX8 rating.

Oppo gives you two options to pick from when it comes to colours. You’ve got the stylish matte Astral Black and the glossy Moonlit Purple (pictured). It’d be rad to have more choices, but let’s be real, both of these colours are total eye candy.

With the design, however, Oppo hasn’t managed to include the feature of wireless charging which we thought was a big miss.

ColourOS

The N2 Flip runs ColorOS 13, based on the latest Android 13. All in all, it’s a smooth and refined experience that’ll make your tech-loving heart skip a beat and brace yourselves for a whole lot of customisability because this software lets you make it truly yours.

ColorOS 13 brings some exciting treats to the table. Say hello to always-on styles that were once exclusive to OxygenOS but now make their grand entrance here like Insight and Bitmoji that’ll jazz up your always-on screen.

There is another feature that’ll make your tummy rumble. ColorOS 13 introduces a nifty contextual mode that pulls in data from food delivery services, slapping it right on your always-on screen. So when you’re eagerly waiting for that pizza to arrive, you can easily keep tabs on its status without breaking a sweat.

For music lovers, ColorOS 13 is all about keeping the beats going without any interruptions. They’ve got Spotify integration that lets you pause, play, and switch tracks without the hassle of unlocking your screen so you can go ahead, rock out to your favourite tunes and let the music flow freely.

ColorOS 13 has its own spin on the dynamic colour picker game. It offers a unique interface where you can choose accent colours based on your phone’s background. While you might not have the whopping 16 variations that Google spoils you with, fear not! You still have the power to tweak individual colours or even create your own personalized colour palette so you can unleash your inner artist!

The Find N2 Flip’s software is full of surprises. With ColorOS 13, you’ll experience a refined and customisable ride so you can take control of your phone like never before!

Camera

The Find N2 Flip can capture those picture-perfect moments with its impressive camera setup. It rocks a whopping 50MP main camera, which can snap photos at a glorious 12.5MP or go all out with the full 50MP. Not too shabby, right? But hold your horses, there’s more to this camera party. It’s got an 8MP ultrawide camera that’ll make all your panoramic shots pop, and a 32MP inner selfie camera to capture your best angles.

Sure, the Find N2 Flip’s camera specs may sound similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s 12MP/12MP/10MP offering, but here’s the scoop: when you can snag a top-notch camera phone like the Google Pixel 7 Pro for the same price, some might argue that you’re missing out on the full picture.

But wait, there’s a twist! Oppo spices things up with their Hasselblad colour science, giving your photos that extra oomph just like they do in their other Oppo and OnePlus phones. And that’s not all—Oppo’s MariSilicon X Imaging NPU hops on board too, claiming to enhance night mode and HDR video, making it easy to capture stunning low-light shots and dazzling videos.

The only downside of the camera is the inability to shoot in Macro mode, perhaps this might come with a software update using one of the lenses but apart from that the Find N2 Flip’s camera game is strong, with a sprinkle of Oppo’s magic and Hasselblad goodness.

Price and Verdict

At this very moment, the Oppo Find N2 Flip reigns supreme as an excellent flip phone, and it’s the best bang for your buck out there.

In comparison to Samsungs Flipper, in the UK, they’re not the same price. And when you can save £100-200 by going with the Oppo option, it’s a tough deal to beat. Those minor nitpicks are easily forgivable when you consider the improved camera, faster charging, and that gapless hinge that screams pure awesomeness. It’s got some serious advantages that might just win you over completely.

If Oppo can match Samsung’s level of polish in the next round, well, watch out because it might just become the undisputed champion.
