Spiderman Miles morales ps5 review

Spiderman: Miles Morales is the 2nd instalment in Insomniac’s journey into the spider-verse. The first game releasing in September of 2018 the long-awaited sequel has finally arrived and is available on your PS4 and PS5.

While the game is available on the PlayStation 4 we recommend using it’s older brother either to play or replay the game as it adds in a whole aspect to the web-swinging adventure that this game is.

Story

Swing through the city and fight crimes as Miles Morales, the apprentice to Peter Parker’s spiderman The game has a main storyline with many side missions, some more significant than others.

Through the game, you can help people and complete missions to earn tokens which in turn can be used to purchase new tech and suits to help spidey liberate the city.

Gameplay

The game itself is playable on the PS4 and the PS5. That being said some features will only work on the next gen console. The adaptive trigger feature is new to sony’s consoles and is a great addition.

In the game, you can feel the triggers adapt to your movement as you are swinging and exploring Miles’ home. The story in this game is amazing.

While the game is significantly shorter than the first of the insomniacs spiderman games, it does capture the essence of miles and his struggles perfectly. As a teenager, Miles has a lot going on in his life at the time and trying to cope with it all whilst keeping his identity a secret is portrayed extremely well in this game.

Within the first spiderman, game combat got repetitive as did the swinging but your saving grace is here in the form of spiderman miles morales.

The game offers many new combat and finishers and with the addition of the “Venom” abilities are plenty to use to finish off your opponents. As for the swinging , there is a variety of swinging maneuvers and skills to do while mid air that will keep you wanting to swing and swing and swing

Graphics and Audio

Spiderman Miles morales ps5 review

The characters in this game just look phenomenal and have the realistic look to them. Another next gen feature is used spectatulary in this game with that being 3d audio. With compatible devices 3d audio is a game-changer and can level up your experience within the games and spiderman miles morales takes advantage of this.

While this feature may not drastically improve your performance it sure does help hearing enemies behind you.

The suits in this game are designed to perfection with insomnia including as much detail as possible.

The insomniac game capitalizes on the next-gen graphics as well by running games at 4k and 60 fps in performance mode which is selected in the options of the game.  There are a number of suits in the game and you can earn them in different ways. A personal favourite of mine is the “classic suit” pictured here.

The ‘not so good’ stuff

As mentioned previously the story isn’t the longest with the main story coming in at around 10 – 12 hours.

This length for the price and a Triple-A game is a heft pill to swallow. Despite there still being side quests to complete once the curtain calls, it just doesn’t feel the same as the side quests do not really flow or interlink. While the suits that are available look fantastic there simply isn’t enough in the eyes of many. Compared to the original spiderman game there was a significant amount less. There is too much spider and not enough man.

Now don’t get me wrong here I love spiderman as much as the next guy but sometimes we have to wonder, what’s it like living in a world with spiderman? Well in the first game you got to experience this as insomniac let you take over as Miles and M.J multiple times whereas in the second game, there isn’t so much of that. So this game does leave us wondering, what is it like to live in a spiderverse?

Verdict

In conclusion, I think that the pros outweigh the cons by a mile(s).

If you don’t mind the shorter story and shortage of suits then this game is highly recommended. If you can’t justify buying a game for this price with a story as short as this then I would recommend waiting until a sale, particularly the summer sale of days of play. However, you should still try and pick up the game as it takes advantage of the new features and also is extremely fun!

This is a game well worth getting, especially if you are new to the Playstation 5 or just PlayStation in general. It will truly immerse you as you take on the role of spiderman: Miles Morales
