Daniel Suárez is a Film Director from the Canary Islands and has been using GoPro cameras for his work for many years. He’s currently working his dream job, traveling the world to find the most beautiful places and creating content to share with the world. After winning an international video contest in 2019, he’s made a living from his trips and the content he creates with his GoPro cameras.

Which feature/setting do you use the most, and why?

GoPro cameras have many amazing features and settings, but the ones that I use the most for taking pictures are: Time Lapse in 0.5s, Photo Mode, Time Lapse 0.5s

It allows me to take multiple pictures (from 10- 100s) and then I can pick the best one later on. You get a super-smooth playback since you are capturing every moment of the event in action. You don’t miss a thing and the results are truly incredible.

What is your favourite way to capture content?

As a content creator, I’ve always been fascinated with how the camera can help to expand our vision and freeze a moment in time. However, today’s cameras can do far more than that! They can capture a long sequence of ‘moments’ that would be difficult for the human eye to really notice.

I’m always looking for real moments. The feelings. The emotions. Real-time, fresh and genuine content – I need to feel something when I see my content. As an artist, it is very important to me to make people feel something about my work. I want them to feel that they could literally be there because the content is so good. The ultimate goal is to create a connection between the audience and the photo/video. Because of this, I mostly feature a human figure in almost all of my content (photo/video) to help to create that feeling, so viewers can really see that it could be them. 

What sport/activity do you use your GoPro gear for most?

I mainly use my GoPro for capturing content whilst travelling and exploring underwater. 

For your sport/activity, do you have any top tips for the best settings to use to capture epic photos?

The image quality on a GoPro is excellent for brightly-lit outdoor shots.

Tips for the best settings:

• Always wipe your lens.
• Always shoot in natural colour – this is the absolute BEST for me.
• I like to shoot in Vertical Mode (9:16). As we’re consuming content 24/7 in vertical mode on socials it’s easier and faster to connect with your audience, you share more information and insight this way. 

If you also add some equipment to your GoPro it allows you to take epic shots from the right angles. For example: using the 3-Way or El Grande Mount to get more in your frame.

For those starting with their first GoPro, what would be your number 1 photography tip for getting the best content?

I read somewhere long ago: “The best camera is the one with you.” Users need to follow their instincts and take risks – they really need to go for it! If you already have an idea in your mind or you’ve always wanted to do something different, just do it. When you see the final result in front of you and it’s better than you ever expected, you’ll be super pleased that you did. Of course, this doesn’t happen everyday but the more you try the better results you have.

Try to get close to the action. Try to make creative compositions and be an early bird. Some of my best shots of my entire career were taken very early in the morning – that’s definitely something to take into account.

Sir David Attenborough, legendary broadcaster and natural historian, has released his latest documentary which is available to stream on Netflix.

In his 93 years, Sir David Attenborough has become a national treasure. His award-winning documentaries have transported us to every part of the globe, showcasing nature in all its glory.

The premise of his latest film is a journey through time and is a cultivation of Sir David’s first-hand experience travelling, filmmaking and researching from the early 20th century to present.

His extraordinary journey is an albeit bittersweet one where a boom in innovation and modernisation has afforded him incredible opportunities to see the world throughout his career, while simultaneously destroying it. He calls this film his ‘witness statement’.

Unlike his documentaries before it, ‘A Life On Our Planet’ has a different tone. It is beautifully heartbreaking and evokes feelings of shame and guilt for what we, as humans, have allowed to happen to our planet in recent history.

We are on a path to self-destruction as we cannot survive without the very ecosystem we are destroying. We are outpacing the world we live in, becoming more unsustainable at a faster rate than ever before. 

The topics of climate change and unsustainable practices such as deforestation, over-fishing and farming and use of fossil fuels are controversial and complex. So many people turn a blind eye and feel that their own contributions are insignificant. Attenborough charges each and every one of us to take responsibility in turning the tide of climate change and encourages us that it is not too late if we act now.

This film is Sir David Attenborough’s most important message and legacy. It is a message for us to live responsibly, more sustainably and in harmony with nature. Our very existence depends on it. As Sir David points out, nature will rebuild itself as it has through billions of years. It is the human race which is not so resilient. 

‘A Life On Our Planet’ really hits home and is unlike any other climate-change documentary we have seen. It is easily one of the most important films of our time and should be watched, shared, discussed and acted upon.

If you’re a ‘one pan dinner’ kind of person, then this is the appliance for you. It boasts 11 cooking functionalities, which can be used in conjunction to cook a meal from start to finish. These functionalities include;

The product manual is not one you’ll want to skip reading. It took us a few uses to get familiar with the machine, but once we cracked it, there was no looking back. Some of our favourite foods that we made using the Instant Pot® Duo Crisp™ + Air Fryer were barbeque pulled pork, biltong, roasted veggies, butter chicken curry, steamed salmon and rice, chicken shawarma and homemade chips.

Design

Our first impression of the Duo Crisp was that it is big. This is definitely something to take into consideration before purchase as it would be bulky to leave on a worktop and takes up a significant amount of storage space with all its parts.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by so many options and accessories when getting started. While this multicooker is intuitive and easy to use, it is not foolproof.

It has a sleek, attractive design and a simple control panel.

How much does it cost?

The Duo Crisp retails for £179.99, which we think is a fair price when you take into account how much you’d spend on standalone appliances and kitchenware to do all of its cooking functions.

Verdict

We were intrigued to try the pressure cooking feature to see if it really did cut down cooking time.

For the most part, it did, though you have to take into consideration the amount of time it takes for the pot to pressurise as well as release pressure (if you do a natural release). The pressurising and pressure release can add an additional 15 to 20 minutes to the total cooking time. Still, we found this an improvement to our usual cooking methods. There was no pot-watching, minimal cooking smells and the manual pressure release at the end was oddly satisfying.

The dry cooking lid is the star of this show. It truly makes ordinary meals into something special.

Using the dry cooking lid to broil at the end adds a beautiful brown crispy finish to the meal.

The air fryer is also a favourite feature of ours. From leftovers to Oreos to broccoli, you name it, we air fried it! The only drawback of the air fryer is that the basket is fairly small compared to some of the other standalone air fryers on the market, though this is a welcome trade-off for us to have the air fryer and other appliances consolidated into one.

The best part about the Duo Crisp for us is the ability to make a meal in one pot from start to finish. From sauteing to cooking to broiling. Less time and fewer dishes are always a bonus.

Admittedly, we were a bit skeptical about whether this miracle cooker would live up to the hype. We tried and tested most of its 11 functions and can honestly say we don’t want to live without it now.
