Season 3 follows dives deeper into one of music’s biggest tragedies. The case is still unsolved and this podcast puts you right back into the thick of the action with lots of new discussion points. We also love that episode titles are named after the tracks from the artist’s back catalogue. If you like Hip Hop, you can’t miss this one.

CRISP. caught up with Safiyyah, a 22-year-old up-and-coming artist from West London who has recently branched into music and has an exciting year ahead.

Of Moroccan and Portuguese descent, Safiyyah has recently signed to Polarface to progress her music and branch into production. Her music straddles the neo-soul, low-fi, contemporary R&B and she takes particular artistic inspiration from Frida Kahlo and Nina Simone.

Expect to be taken on a journey when you listen to her music.

Who are your musical influences growing up?

Prince , Nina Simone , Amy Winehouse , Sade, Tupac & Lauren hill

What else do you take influence from?

Books, politics, news, everyday life.

How has your heritage influenced your music?

Being half and half I always felt I didn’t have an exact belonging this influenced me however I’ve used both cultures to influence my style. Embracing my roots.

What was the first gig you went to?

Not gonna lie it was probably Justin Bieber or something like that. But my earliest memorable artist was Maverick Sabre.

How would you describe your musical style?

I would say R&B, Soul & Jazz.

At what point did you want to take music from a hobby and passion and turn it into a career?

I’ve always wanted to be a singer since I was little but I only realised I could a few years ago. It has become more accessible to young people with platforms like Soundcloud and Spotify. It always seemed like a faraway dream but I’m now living it

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3kQqQcFHU-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

What current artists are you listening to and what tunes you have on rotation?

SiR, biig piig, Snoh Aalegra, Arlo parks, collard, brkhampton, Brad stank and my tune at the moment has to be Greentea Peng – “Sane”.

Where will you be touring which venue would you want to perform?

It’s all in plans for the new year, stay tuned. I would love to perform at Glastonbury, the O2 Arena, and the Roundhouse

What are your thoughts on performing live vs in the studio?

Performing live is a whole different experience, you have the crowd there and you have to connect with the audience. There’s a lot of adrenaline. In the studio, it’s more comfortable, cozy but I prefer to sing live. It’s for the people after all.

Who would you love to collab with past /present

Past : Tupac, Biggie, MJ, and Prince

Present : SiR, Earthgang, Choker and Jelani Areyah

Anything I learned the hard way in the music industry?

I’m still a newbie still always learning. My advice is to know your stuff. acknowledge not just the music and instruments but the business side as well. Never defer from your own vision and beliefs.

What do you do in your spare time?

Listen to other artists, watch anime, spend time with family and friends

Top place to travel bucket list?

Southeast Asia, Bali.

If you could take 5 guests to dinner and concert, who would you bring what do you eat and what gig are you going to?

If they can be celebrities, I’d bring Kanye west, Shia Labeouf, Stephen Hawking, and Tiffany Haddish.

We’d eat Mexican food and go to see The Internet live.

You can expect Safiyyah’s album to be out in the new year. Follow Safiyyah on Instagram here and listen to her new single “You Again” below.

The new Golf will shortly come to market with a revolutionary cockpit that is clearer, neater, completely digitalised, and connected online

Dubbed The Digital Cockpit, the new and upgraded dashboard will come as standard in the VW Golf and virtually all of the displays and controls are digital.

Touch sliders enable quick and intuitive access to temperature and volume controls, while a touch island under the infotainment system also provides direct access to additional air conditioning functions, the assistance systems, and – depending on the equipment included – driving modes and parking assistants.

In a second touch island, the light and vision functions have also been repositioned and brought together: the light, along with the windscreen and rear window heating, is now operated using a digital panel arranged higher up on the dashboard to the left of the instruments, even further improving the brand’s characteristic straightforward drive experience.

There is then an option to upgrade the Digital Cockpit to a High-End Cockpit. The new Innovision cockpit will allow the give the driver a larger range of functions, mainly a 10-inch navigation system and a windscreen HUD.

The Golf will also have voice command support and you can activate your system by simply saying “Hello Volkswagen”, “Take me home” or “I’m Cold”. Dual microphones inside the vehicle mean it can quickly establish who is speaking and respond accordingly. E.g. identifying which interior climate control zone needs changing.

The new golf’s connectivity will be enabled by an online connectivity unit (OCU) with an integrated eSIM, to which all infotainment systems in the Golf are coupled as standard.

The Grandmaster Chime Ref.6300A broke the record previously held by a Rolex

A charity auction conducted by Christie’s was held in Geneva and played host to some of the rarest timepieces on earth.

Only Watch, is a biennial watch auction comprising 50, one-off luxury timepieces made from the finest watchmakers and horologists. Each watch is auctioned and sold with 99% of the proceeds funding research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

One of the watches featured was a One-off “The Only One” Grandmaster Chime from Patek Philippe and when the gavel struck, it became the most expensive watch of all time. Final Price? A whopping 31 million dollars. The previous record was held by a Rolex Daytona belonging to Paul Newman which sold for $17.75m.

Not only is it a unique 1/1, The watch itself, a ref.6300a hosts over 20 complications. Some of these include:

a grande and petite sonnerie

a minute repeater

an instantaneous perpetual calendar with a four-digit year display

second time zone

day/night indicator

day/date

month

leap-year cycle

four-digit year display

24-hour and minute subdial.

Lauded luxury car manufacturer Bentley is taking the car browsing experience to the cloud, launching an app to enable prospective customers to get up close and personal with the new Flying Spur.

With the real thing set to roll off the production line early next year, the Bentley AR Visualiser – available on both iOS and Android devices – enables us to kick the virtual tyres of their flagship four-door sedan, looking at both its interior and exterior in exquisite digital detail.

It gets cleverer, as you can not only choose the scale of the virtual vehicle all the way from Matchbox-sized to 1:1 on the driveway, but are also able to take it for an AR-enabled spin from the comfort of your living room.

The Flying Spur AR app is available now on both the Apple App Store, and Google Play.

Brenda McKernan – owner of bespoke eyewear emporium Eyeworks London – spills on spectacles, celeb-spotting at her Kensington store and how to choose the correct frames for your face!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how long have you’ve been running the store?

Eyeworks London champions independent niche eyewear brands over the mass-produced licenced ones. I started the business with my husband, just over 9 years ago.

How did you originally get into optometry?

I loved studying the sciences at school and wanted to do something combining that and working with people.

Like most teenage girls I also loved fashion at the time, but didn’t think I could combine all three (science, fashion and people) but creating Eyeworks London has made that possible!

What’s the biggest trend right now in eyewear?

Metals have become a huge trend over the last few years. If I was to be specific, our round double bar Ahlem Bastille frames epitomise this trend.

What are the basic rules in terms of do’s and don’ts choosing the right eyewear for your face shape?

A lot of people will tell you to choose the opposite shape from face shape – for example, don’t choose a round frame if you have a round face.

There is some value to this, but it can be confusing as most people don’t have easily identifiable face shapes.

Instead, one basic rule is to look at the top of the frame and how they interact with the eyebrows…

Some people need an arch on their frame as the top can look quite flat and severe. Others wearing an arched frame can look a little surprised and a bit ‘Dame Edna’ – generally people are either one or the other!

Which celebrities/influencers’ looks impress you in the eyewear game, just in terms of just getting it right every time?

That’s a difficult one! Greg Wallace from MasterChef has a great collection of glasses, I also love Naga Munchetty’s Kirk and Kirk specs.

Who’s the most famous person that’s come into Eyeworks (confidentiality permitting)?

We have lots of high profile actors visiting our shop – mostly visiting us for our contact lens for film work. Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett…the list goes on!

What’s your opinion on wearing frames without lenses?

Not really a fan. I think you need to be under 25 to get away with that!

Step up your frame game at:

Laying to rest any fears of a watered-down version of James Cameron’s apocalyptic vision, Paramount Pictures has released a ‘red band’ teaser complete with all the hardcore action fans have longed for in a Terminator sequel with Dark Fate.

Launching in UK cinemas from the 23rd of October (1st November in the U.S.), Terminator: Dark Fate reunites Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton as the OG Sarah Connor, shifting the story’s focus to a young girl who possesses the key to ending the war…

Preview screenings have also been overwhelmingly positive, with many reviewers claiming this to be the first installment to match 1991’s incredible Terminator 2.

The universe of the immaculately tailored assassin continues to expand, with word that ‘Underworld’ director Len Wiseman is to lead on a spin-off of the lucrative ‘John Wick’ franchise.

Dubbed ‘Ballerina’, the tale is to focus on a young female killer avenging the death of her family, with a script by Shay Hatten – writer of recent entry ‘Parabellum’, which took a healthy $323 million at the global box office.

Spawning a series of gender-swapped revenge cash-ins from Salma Hayek in 2014’s Everly to Jennifer Garner in 2018’s Peppermint, it’ll be interesting to see if the originators can improve on the mixed results of recent efforts.

Spawning two highly successful sequels (and John Wick 4 due in 2021) and firmly catapulting Keanu Reeves back into the A-list – including an exec. producer credit on this effort – Lionsgate’s leading series will serve up neo-noir ultraviolence to screens late next year.

Dubbed the “shoe that started it all”, there’s no denying that the Air Jordan 1 is a certified classic.

Since its debut in 1985 there have been countless styles and colourways of the AJ1 and every year Nike have to make a decision on which ones to retro, collab on and re-design altogether.

It’s not certain just how many will be released in 2020 as it’s a bit too early to call but from the rumours we’ve heard, here are the pick of the bunch so far.

Air Jordan 1 – “Chicago”

Release Date – Feb 2020 or “All-Star Weekend”

If the rumours are true, start queuing or doing whatever you need to do now to get these. Mooted as grails by many, the OG Chicago colourway is legendary and what a perfect weekend to release them on than the NBA all start game which is held in Chicago next year

Air Jordan 1 – “Court Purple”

Release Date – April 2020

Image – @zSneakerHeadz

Unlike the twin release of the Court Purple and Pine Green colourways recently gone, the 2020 court purple is rumoured to drop the purple toe and leave it white. Whatever the case, premium leathers and a popping colourway also make these a must-have for any collector if released.

Air Jordan 1 – “Royal Toe” / “Game Royal”

Release date – Spring, Early Summer 2020

Image – @zSneakerHeadz

We’ve already seen these released in a Low version, but there’s no doubting a high version is another level up. Unlike the low’s, we could expect these to be finished in a high-end premium tumbled leather finish make them much more sought after. Serious shoe-porn.

Air Jordan 1 – “Mocha”

Release Date – June 2020

Image – @zSneakerHeadz

Look familiar? Yup, the colourway is very similar the Cactus Jack 1’s that Travis Scott Collab’d on in both Highs and Low’s this past year. Not surprisingly, they flew off the shelves and are now one of the most sought after 1’s you can buy due to the reverse swoosh.

These, however, share a similar colour palette but the swoosh is the right way round. If the colours are bringing you in and you dig earth tones, these could be a wise investment.

Redefining adult animation.

The hardest thing about getting someone to watch something as genuinely novel as ‘Undone’ – the latest product of Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and writer-producer Kate Purdy – is trying to describe it…so here goes.

It’s a live-action (yet animated) father-slash-daughter murder mystery (but her father is already dead, so he’s helping investigate his own murder) that revels in the mundanity of modern life yet takes the viewer on an incredible and visually mesmerizing journey to comprehend the non-linearity of space/time…but is also a parable about mental illness and explores familial and sexual relationships in a refreshing, heartbreakingly honest way.

Okay, just watch this and come back.

See?

It stars Alita: Battle Angel’s Rosa Salazar as Alma, navigating her slow spiral into another universe and the family and friends that surround her.

If the animation technique looks familiar, it’s the same ‘rotoscoping’ technique used in the 2006 film ‘A Scanner Darkly’, where both hand-drawn and computer-animated images are mapped over human performances, giving incredible depth to the acting as well as precisely the surreal tone such a unique story needs.

Amazing, unforgettable and exclusive to Amazon Prime Video – watch the first episode (of eight) here.
